The National Flag of Canada, popularly known as the Maple Leaf and l'Unifolié (French for "the one-leaved"), is characterized by a stylized 11-pointed red maple leaf. The Cuban flag's origins date from 1849 when movements to liberate Cuba from Spanish rule emerged. Anti-Spanish Cuban exiles under the leadership of Narciso López adopted a flag suggested by the poet Miguel Teurbe Tolón.
